Megyn Kelly Discusses Security Measures After Charlie Kirk’s Assassination

Virginia’s governor provided Megyn Kelly with security during her first public appearance on a college campus following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, as she revealed in a recent interview.

Kelly, a former prime-time host at Fox News, spoke to the media about how she was scheduled to appear alongside Kirk at Virginia Tech just weeks after his assassination at Utah Valley University on September 10.

She made these comments while participating in Turning Point USA’s “American Comeback Tour” at Burruss Hall on September 24 at Virginia Tech’s Blacksburg campus.

In her conversation with Miranda Devine on the “Pod Force One” podcast, Kelly expressed gratitude to outgoing Governor Glenn Youngkin for being present at the event.

She noted, “God bless the great outgoing governor of Virginia, Glenn Youngkin, because he was there, too.”

Kelly affectionately referred to the governor as a “sweetheart” for leaving behind his heavily armed security detail to ensure her safety.

She recalled, “He came with a bunch of security guys because he’s the governor, and they had uniforms with camouflage and helmets, plus serious ammunition.” Kelly mentioned that Youngkin departed before her but specifically instructed his security to look after her.

“He said, ‘You stay here and take care of Megyn,’” she reported. “He didn’t have to do that at all. But what a class act.”

She indicated that after Kirk’s assassination, she had to carefully assess the risks associated with her upcoming tour engagements.

Reflecting on her planned visit to Virginia Tech alongside Kirk, she admitted feeling a heavy weight after learning about his untimely death. “When I remembered that I was booked to go to campus with Charlie…I felt a heavy weight,” she said.

Even though her husband expressed concerns about her safety, she insisted, “There was no part of me that couldn’t do it.”

Kelly assured that she had hired top security to ensure the protection of everyone involved and emphasized, “It’s absolutely safe and I wouldn’t even think about it.”

She acknowledged initially feeling “weird” upon her return following Kirk’s death, but quickly regained her composure.

Since resuming her tour, ticket sales have surged, with some venues selling out rapidly. Kelly remarked that audiences were eager to attend, emphasizing, “The assassin’s bullet will not silence us.”

She encouraged taking risks, even for those who may not see themselves as brave. “The more you take a risk, the more it works out, and then you’re like, oh, it wasn’t that bad,” she said, adding that moving forward is always key.
