Authorities in Kentucky recently arrested a substitute teacher, Crystal Sims, for allegedly exposing herself during a video chat with a minor student in connection with a sexual scheme. The 30-year-old from Cave City was taken into custody on October 2 after the Barren County Sheriff’s Office received reports about her contacting the juvenile to arrange a meeting.
Deputies interviewed students and learned that Sims had interacted with a boy while substituting in his class. She admitted during questioning that she accepted a friend request on Snapchat from the student.
According to the boy’s account, discussions began about meeting for sex on August 22 in Cave City. He even provided officials with a recording of their calls, which included Sims asking whether he would come to see her.
The conversation escalated to a video call, where the boy claimed Sims appeared in the shower with an exposed chest.
During an interview on the day of her arrest, Sims mentioned that several students had attempted to connect with her on social media, but she declined their requests. While she acknowledged that it was her voice in the recorded call, she insisted that she only intended to meet the students to apologize for her behavior in class.
Sims maintained that no meeting ever occurred and that nothing inappropriate took place. It’s noteworthy that the specific school where Sims worked and the boy’s age haven’t been disclosed yet.
She faces charges for illegally using electronic communications to solicit sexual acts from a minor. After being released on a $25,000 cash bail, Sims is set to appear in court later this week.
