Francia Raisa is opening up about her emotions, and it’s refreshing to see her speak out. Recently, she addressed rumors regarding a supposed feud with Selena Gomez.
Raisa had previously donated a kidney to Gomez after the pop star’s kidney failed due to lupus complications.
A few days before Gomez’s wedding to Benny Blanco, Raisa was questioned about claims that she felt “angry” and “disgusted” with Gomez for smoking post-transplant.
“Well, now you have me in the media and rumors are just nonsense. I’ve never said anything,” Raisa stated during an interview on September 25. “When that rumor came out, I had no idea about it,” she pointedly added.
Raisa mentioned that TMZ tried to reach her for comments, but she was busy with work.
“What you’re asking me about is just a rumor. Nobody really knows what’s happening, and neither of us is discussing it,” the actress explained.
She suggested, “Perhaps one day we’ll address it.” Nevertheless, it was worth noting her absence at Gomez’s star-studded wedding on September 27 in Santa Barbara, California.
In her conversation with the reporter, Raisa expressed happiness for Gomez, saying, “She has a life, she’s already a millionaire, and I’m grateful to have been able to help her.”
Back in 2017, Gomez shared her kidney journey, posting photos of her friends in the hospital together. She had publicly thanked Raisa on Instagram for her life-saving gift.
However, following Gomez’s comments in 2022 about her other friendships, rumors began about tension between her and Raisa.
Raisa reacted by removing a comment on social media after Gomez mentioned in an interview that she felt only Taylor Swift was a genuine friend in the industry.
In March 2023, Gomez referred to Raisa as her “best friend,” emphasizing how grateful she was for the kidney donation.
Raisa’s father mentioned that he had spoken with Gomez concerning concerns about her drinking post-transplant, noting that it’s a serious matter.
Still, Raisa clarified that any perceived rift had nothing to do with kidney issues. “I think sometimes people need to spend time apart to grow,” she shared. “We needed our own journeys for self-discovery.” She also mentioned taking time for herself to figure out personal challenges.
Despite the ups and downs, Raisa acknowledged that Gomez has been a tremendous support throughout her struggles.
Gomez recently got engaged to Blanco, revealing the news through heartfelt Instagram posts. The ongoing narrative between these two shows the complexities of friendship, especially in the face of major life changes.
