Jack Smith's Special Counsel Actions Diminished Our Democracy

Marlow Critiques Special Counsel Smith’s Investigation

In a recent appearance on C-Span’s washington journal, Breitbart News Editor Alex Marlow labeled the investigation into President Donald Trump by Special Counsel Jack Smith as “illegal” and a move that “undermined our democracy.” This commentary was part of the discussion surrounding his new book, Breaking the Law: Exposing the Weaponization of the American Legal System Against Donald Trump, which has made the New York Times bestseller list.

Marlow elaborated on the mechanisms employed by what he termed the “Left Legal Apparatus.” He highlighted how support spans from advocates to the law schools preparing young lawyers to engage as political players. “Year after year, people dedicate themselves to creating systems aimed at achieving political victories. They are the primary opposition to President Trump,” he stated. He illustrates the investigation as part of a broader effort with unprecedented legal strategies targeting Trump, which he claims are closely aligned with the Biden administration. Marlow referred to this as the “scandal of the century.”

“It’s drastically underestimated,” he asserted. He pointed out that many haven’t recognized the involvement of Biden’s administration in these actions.

Specifically, Marlow critiqued Smith’s investigation, suggesting it was an effort to destabilize democratic processes. “Trump was charged for retaining classified documents he had the authority to declassify, which is peculiar,” he remarked, reflecting on how other government figures have faced much lighter consequences despite more severe offenses.

He conveyed frustration, adding, “Multiple past presidents, vice presidents, and even generals have done similar things and received minimal repercussions. It feels like any inquiry is just meant to chip away at our democratic principles.”

Marlow also argued that Smith’s appointment as special counsel was never constitutionally valid from the get-go. Smith, known for his prosecution of former Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell under the Obama administration, saw that decision later overturned by the Supreme Court, which was a significant setback for him.

Smith has a reputation for being partisan, often collaborating with Biden and Obama’s supporters. Marlow claimed that the flawed nature of Smith’s appointment—unsupported by the Constitution—was significant in how Trump’s team countered his efforts.

“During the 2020 elections, Smith released information that was obtained improperly, raising serious concerns about his motives,” Marlow added, emphasizing the implications on the electoral process.

Breaking the Law: Exposing the Weaponization of the American Legal System Against Donald Trump has received endorsements, including one from Trump himself. The book is available in hardcover, e-reader, and audiobook formats for those interested in exploring its arguments further.
