Pressure on Mike McDaniel Amid Dolphins’ Struggles

Mike McDaniel is certainly feeling the pressure after the Dolphins’ rough beginning this season, sitting at 1-4. However, it doesn’t seem like a coaching change is imminent.

Jeremy Fowler from ESPN weighed in on McDaniel’s job status during a segment on the “Rich Eisen Show.” He offered some insights into the current situation surrounding the beleaguered coach.

“I think it’s moderately hot,” Fowler noted, providing a candid assessment of McDaniel’s circumstances.

“The owners really like Mike McDaniel,” he added. “It’s not as if they’re searching for a reason to fire him right now. I don’t anticipate any immediate changes this week; they likely want to give him some time. But there are numerous factors at play.” One of those factors, Fowler pointed out, is the atmosphere at the stadium, especially when fans start turning against the team.

“If the home games get so bad that fans turn on each other, that’s when [team owner] Stephen Ross might decide to make a move,” Fowler commented.

The Dolphins recently faced a challenging matchup in Charlotte, where they squandered a 17-point lead, ultimately losing to the Panthers 27-24.

McDaniel’s demeanor after the game didn’t inspire much confidence, as he was seen with a disheartened expression at Bank of America Stadium, something Fowler observed closely.

In fact, Fowler remarked that McDaniel seemed especially down, knowing that upcoming games, including the one against Carolina, would only get tougher.

Despite making significant roster changes over the off-season and losing star receiver Tyreek Hill, the Dolphins are gearing up to face challenging opponents such as the Chargers, Browns, and Falcons soon. But for now, it looks like the Dolphins are preparing to weather this storm with McDaniel at the helm.

Fowler does note that while McDaniel is on the radar for potential head coaching changes, he doesn’t expect any moves in the short term. With a current record of 29-27, McDaniel acknowledges this start isn’t quite what he or Ross had envisioned, particularly after such a disappointing loss.

“He was just as frustrated as I was,” McDaniel said regarding his conversation with Ross. “We need to prepare for the challenges ahead, especially with the Chargers coming up.” The Dolphins will take on the Chargers this Sunday at 1 PM in Miami.
