‘Not Impressed’: Charlamagne Critiques Hakeem Jeffries Following Exchange With Mike Lawler

Charlamagne Critiques Hakeem Jeffries in Recent Show

On Thursday’s episode of “Breakfast Club,” radio host Charlamagne the God took aim at House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, especially after Jeffries had a heated exchange with Republican Rep. Mike Lawler amid ongoing discussions about a potential government shutdown.

Their clash occurred on Wednesday, where Jeffries accused Lawler of trying to create a spectacle. He repeatedly referred to former President Donald Trump as the “boss” of the Republican Party. Charlamagne suggested that Jeffries was also seeking the spotlight, implying he was trying to portray himself as someone working for “the boss,” which includes figures like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Charlamagne commented, “While I hear him seeking time for this guy, Hakeem seems to be performing as well. Someone was recording him because he clearly wanted to put on a show, too. I’m not really impressed with Hakeem Jeffries claiming someone got ‘The Boss.’”

He continued, “Chuck Schumer is essentially Hakeem Jeffries’ boss, and Hakeem’s other bosses are New York City real estate lobbyists. I mean, even his significant contributions come from financial lobbyists. It’s worth asking Hakeem if he needs to get permission from his boss at AIPAC.”

In the 2023-2024 cycle, Jeffries’ top donor was AIPAC, which gave over $866,000 to his campaign. The real estate sector also funneled more than $814,000, and the securities and investment industry contributed over $1.3 million during the same timeframe.

During the confrontation, Jeffries was notably animated, pointing at Lawler’s chest while asserting, “Are you trying to elevate yourself because you’re worried about reelection? You’re just chasing influence.” He insisted that Lawler was attempting to dismiss his opinions by telling him to “keep your mouth shut.”

Jeffries also avoided answering whether he backs New York City’s Democratic mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani, despite Lawler pressing him on the matter. “When will you show support for him?” Lawler inquired directly. Jeffries did not respond, and neither he nor Schumer has publicly endorsed Mamdani, even as many prominent New York Democrats have offered their support recently.
