Dearborn mayor informs pastor he’s ‘not welcome’ after criticism of street named for Hamas supporter

Last month, Ted Barham, a Christian pastor from Dearborn, Michigan—home to the largest Arab population in the U.S.—candidly expressed his concerns during a city council meeting regarding the symbolic naming of two intersections after Osama Shiblani.

Shiblani, known as the publisher of Dearborn’s Arab American News, is a notable figure in the community.

Barham challenged the city’s commendation of Shiblani, citing his past remarks that hailed Hezbollah and Hamas as “freedom fighters”. He made a pointed argument, suggesting the city might as well have named the streets “Hamas Street” and “Hezbollah Street.”

This prompted a furious response from Dearborn’s Muslim mayor, Abdullah Hammoud, who labeled Barham an “Islamophobe” and implied he was unwelcome in the city. He even joked about holding a parade once Barham left.

A recent episode of “Levin TV” featured a segment showcasing this intense exchange.

Mark Levin, the host, expressed his dismay at the lack of media coverage surrounding the incident.

He connected the dynamics in Dearborn to broader patterns in areas like Bethlehem—historically the birthplace of Jesus—and Hebron, where Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are buried.

“Not long ago, Bethlehem was predominantly Christian—about 80 percent. Now, that figure is below 15 percent. This reflects the Palestinian situation,” Levin argued.

He also recalled a previous visit to Hebron, describing the need for an armored car and a driver with a weapon, emphasizing the precariousness of the environment.

Levin then drew parallels between the Dearborn uproar and historical shifts, arguing that the term “Palestinian West Bank” undermines the Jewish historical narrative, similar to how the naming in Dearborn overlooks issues.

According to Levin, the stance of local “Islamists” reveals their support for Hezbollah and Qatar, indicating a desire for the destruction of Israel and, essentially, the United States.
