Renée Rapp seems unbothered by expectations.
On Wednesday, October 1st, the vibrant 25-year-old pop singer brought her unique flair to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center as part of her Bite Me Tour. The energy was palpable in the 19,000-seat venue, blending attitude with a fun performance.
When it comes to confidence—just take a peek at her social media or podcasts. Whether making bold remarks or showcasing her style through lyrics, Rapp exudes a cool vibe, effortlessly owning the stage.
That evening, her look struck a balance between rock ‘n’ roll and early 2000s rebellion. She donned ripped black tights paired with knee-high boots, bold makeup framing her eyes, and voluminous curly hair reminiscent of Willow Smith’s style. The overall aesthetic, featuring a black-and-white checkered floor and a pink star platform, gave a nostalgic nod to the music videos of the 2000s, which I found quite enjoyable.
Her acting background was clear, with her Broadway roots shining brightly. It’s often easy to forget that she started on stage, particularly with roles like in Mean Girls: The Musical. But seeing her command the crowd with genuine charisma and an impressive vocal range makes it evident she is a natural performer.
No backup dancers joined her on stage, as the spotlight remained firmly on her and her band. This minimalist setup somehow felt complete. When an artist captivates the audience like Rapp does, extra embellishments seem unnecessary. She understands the importance of simplicity.
Vocally, Rapp was on point throughout the show. As she moved around, her powerful voice carried the tunes, whether she was performing “Leave Me Alone” or a heartfelt cover of Keyshia Cole’s “Love.” After finishing the latter, she encouraged everyone, young and older, to check out the classic song if they were unfamiliar. I certainly looked it up myself—definitely worth the hype!
Midway through the concert, as she leaned over the piano for “That’s So Funny,” Rapp shared the deeper meaning behind the song. She expressed how a friendship breakup can sometimes hurt even more than romantic splits. This led her to connect it with another track, “Poison Poison,” from her debut album, Snow Angels, highlighting how it represents anger, while “That’s So Funny” offers a more mature perspective.
Rapp described her latest album, Bite Me, as aiming for a “lowbrow, sleazy, aggressive pop” feel, and she certainly delivered on that vibe while keeping it playful.
Final thoughts: Experiencing Rapp live felt like a cathartic release, as her energy resonated with the eager crowd full of “young ex-wives.”
Looking ahead, Rapp will be back in New York on Friday, December 12th, to take part in a Jingle Ball concert at Madison Square Garden alongside Ed Sheeran, Laufey, Zara Larsson, and others.

Renee Rapp New Song
On August 1st, Rapp released her second studio album, Bite Me.
This album kicks off with the playful yet edgy “Leave Me Alone,” a mix of cheekiness and sweetness. There’s something catchy about that refrain—perhaps it’s the line “Please leave me alone, well, I’d like to have some fun.” It’s certainly resonated with many.
Other standout tracks include the fiery “Why Is She Still Here?,” the soft “Sometimes,” the flirty “Kiss It Kiss It,” and the raw “I Can’t Have You Around Anymore.”
The ’90s alt-pop feel of “Shy,” along with the bold “At Least I’m Hot,” which channels Regina George vibes, and the understated “That’s So Funny,” showcasing impressive vocals, add to the overall charm of the album.
If you can’t tell, I think we’re fans.
To check it out for yourself, listen to Bite Me.
