Company recalls almost 245,000 pounds of pasta connected to fatal listeria outbreak

A company in California has issued a recall for approximately 245,000 pounds of cooked pasta due to a deadly listeria outbreak. This recall affects various pasta products distributed to grocery stores nationwide.

Nate’s Fine Foods, based in Roseville, California, initiated the recall, which includes linguine, fettuccine, penne, and more. The announcement was made on September 25 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

This development follows lab tests that revealed the pasta produced by Nate’s Fine Foods contained the same strain of Listeria monocytogenes linked to Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo and Meatball Linguine products, known to be connected to an outbreak that has resulted in four fatalities and 20 illnesses since August 2024.

FreshRealm, another company from San Clemente, California, employed genetic sequencing to confirm this connection to the outbreak.

As a precaution, several grocery chains have also recalled items made with Nate’s Fine Foods pasta. The FDA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture have advised customers to either throw away the affected products or return them for a refund.

Specific recalls so far include:
