Yan-Kay Crystal Lowe, 44, shares her stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis and promises to keep fighting.

Crystal Rowe, known for her role in Young Kay, opens up about her ongoing health challenge.

The 44-year-old actress has revealed her diagnosis of stage 3 cancer in a personal essay published recently.

“My relationship with my body has always been complicated,” Rowe reflects. “Long before I had my two wonderful kids, I was modeling bikinis for magazines and found myself often in roles that focused excessively on looks. I was always assessing my appearance, questioning whether I measured up, which felt like a constant struggle.”

She noted that her perspective began shifting after she joined Hallmark’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered series as Rita Haywith.

“For the first time, my work was critically evaluated. Yet, I still find myself drawn to mirrors occasionally. It’s different now; it’s not just about anxiety anymore, it’s about my health,” Rowe elaborates.

Back in February, the actress discovered a “large lump” in her right breast.

“Initially, I thought it was just a sprain from working out. I got checked out and had a mammogram and guided ultrasound, but they didn’t find anything,” she remembers. “They told me it was a mystery, that ‘breasts are just one of those things’.”

Months later, the lump remained but had altered in size and position.

When she visited her doctor again, a biopsy was taken, and he suggested it might be cancer.

“I just stared at him, thinking I hadn’t heard him right. Cancer? No way. But deep down, I had a nagging thought: ‘What if?’

Just three days later, her doctor called with the confirmation of invasive cancer in one of her breast ducts. Rowe recalls, “I curled up and screamed after hanging up. It was overwhelming.” She praised her husband for allowing her space to process the news.

“I’m now facing chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, radiation, and eventually implants. That’s a lot to take in, especially since I’ve never dealt with anything this serious before,” she admitted, expressing gratitude for the support from her Hallmark family.

Before starting chemotherapy, she found ways to channel her feelings positively.

“I decided to transform my approach to chemotherapy. I named myself Agnes Macdonald, a fierce Scottish warrior battling ‘Barry,’ my cancer,” she explained.

Rowe shared how her husband visualized a powerful warrior for her, and she turned on the Braveheart soundtrack, feeling a surge of strength and readiness.

Reflecting on her journey, she expressed, “If I could share one takeaway, it’s this: This experience has been daunting and humbling, consuming me like nothing else physically and emotionally. Yet, I am determined to persevere, to turn hardship into growth.”

She also took to Instagram to encourage other women to get mammograms and regular check-ups.

Support poured in from her fellow Hallmark stars, many expressing their love and encouragement. “We are sending you all our prayers,” wrote Nicki DeLoach. “Your strength and willingness to support others in your time of need say a lot about your character.”

Janel Parrish noted, “You look amazing,” while Lacey Chabert added, “I’m holding you in my heart.” Tamera Mowry concluded her message with a heartfelt, “We love you, Krystal.”
