Costco’s Giant Pies Spark Sharing Interest

When it comes to desserts, bigger is often better—especially at Costco.

This well-known warehouse store is famous for its seasonal desserts each fall. Their pies are particularly massive, with some tipping the scales at around 58 ounces, which is over three pounds. Perfect for gatherings, right?

Recently, a Costco shopper expressed a keen desire to share one of these enormous treats. They posted an ad on Craigslist, looking for fellow dessert enthusiasts to join them. It’s a bit of a unique approach, but hey, why not?

The ad, which featured a picture of the giant pie, mentioned, “I’d love to try Costco’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie, but I hear it’s 4.5 pounds and pretty dense. I can’t tackle it alone, so I’m hoping to find three or four people to share it with me in the Costco parking lot. It’s 118 degrees out; I need to hurry. I’ll buy the pie, but you bring your own plate and fork.”

Even though this ad originally surfaced in 2023, it’s making the rounds again, particularly on TikTok, where it has caught the attention of many.

As the video gained traction—over 200,000 views—some commenters had a chuckle at the whole situation, interpreting the ad as a reflection of the current economic climate.

These hefty pies usually go for around $5.99, but one responder called it a “recession indicator,” which might seem extreme, but there’s a hint of truth, perhaps.

Another creative soul chimed in with a clever idea: “We really need an app for single people to shop at Costco and split the costs and portions. This economic situation calls for it.”

Some commenters even saw the ad as more than just a plea for pie, suggesting it symbolizes a deeper yearning for connection and community.

“Why am I feeling emotional about this?” asked one observer.

“People are really looking to build friendships,” another added.

Many people in the comments seemed to resonate with the ad’s sentiment, commenting on how they tend to crave dessert but find them to be a waste when they’re alone.

“It’s genuine in that way,” remarked one user.

With the holidays approaching, excitement mounted at Costco’s announcement of its beloved Kirkland Signature Pumpkin Pie’s return. Yet, many expressed a wish for a smaller option, noting that it’s tough to buy such a large item when living solo.

“Food court slices would be a great idea,” one shopper suggested.
