Shooting in South Carolina Bar Leaves Four Dead, Many Injured
At least four people died and around 20 others were injured in a shooting early Sunday morning at a bar on St. Helena Island, South Carolina, according to local law enforcement.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were summoned to Willie’s Bar and Grill on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive shortly after 1 a.m. due to the shooting.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a large crowd, with several individuals already suffering from gunshot wounds.
A preliminary investigation suggests that there were hundreds of patrons at the bar during the incident, and many victims and witnesses attempted to escape to nearby businesses and residences for safety.
The Beaufort County Emergency Medical Services took several victims to local hospitals, while others arrived by their own means seeking medical help for various injuries. In total, law enforcement stated that 20 individuals were hurt in the shooting. Among these, four were critically injured, and the remaining four were declared dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet released the names of those who lost their lives in this tragic event. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, as well as the identities of those involved, is ongoing.
“This is a tragic and difficult case for everyone,” the sheriff’s office shared in a statement. “We ask for your patience as we continue our investigation. Our hearts go out to all the victims and their loved ones.”
