Jets Face Setback After Loss; Wilson’s Injury Concerns
LONDON — The Jets had a tough outing on Sunday with a significant loss, and now they’re facing uncertainty regarding one of their standout players.
Wide receiver Garrett Wilson sustained a knee injury during the game and will undergo evaluations to assess how serious it is.
Throughout the 13-11 defeat to the Broncos, Wilson’s participation was intermittent.
On a critical third down near the end, the Jets targeted him, but the pass slipped away as he was near the sideline.
Following that, Wilson was ejected and didn’t return for the Jets’ final offensive play.
“I’ll find out more soon and adjust my approach based on what I learn,” Wilson remarked.
Though he didn’t specify the injury’s location, he was seen limping towards the locker room, and officials confirmed it was related to his knee.
Wilson had an X-ray at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and mentioned he would have an MRI scheduled for Monday.
When asked if he was anxious about potentially missing time, he responded cautiously.
“We’re going to figure it out,” he said. “I don’t want to jump to conclusions just yet. I’m just waiting for the results. It’s messing with my head a bit. I really hope for a positive outcome.”
The Jets’ offensive line struggled significantly, allowing nine sacks against the Broncos. While part of this was due to QB Justin Fields holding the ball too long, the line also faced a lot of pressure.
“We were aware of it,” guard Joe Tippman stated. “We need to keep our focus, study more, and ensure we can execute plays—even if it takes longer for Justin to get the ball off.”
This marked yet another year of disappointing pass protection for the Jets, who saw the Cowboys rack up five sacks the previous week.
Despite the offensive woes, the Jets’ defense managed to bounce back impressively, holding the Broncos to just 246 total yards and only one touchdown.
A players-only meeting was convened earlier this week to address internal concerns regarding their performance.
“I feel like I fulfilled what I aimed for,” stated edge rusher Jermaine Johnson, who was sacked in his first game back. “We can’t afford to let up 35, 30, 25 points. We discussed the need for motivation to win. Without that, victory is out of reach. I think we made strides in that direction.”
Additionally, CB Quantez Stigers and LB Cam Jones exited the game due to lower back injuries.
