Travis Hunter’s Baptism Before NFL Game
On Sunday morning, in what seemed like a significant moment of faith, Jacksonville wide receiver Travis Hunter was baptized just hours ahead of his team’s home game.
Hunter made his public declaration of faith at Celebration Church before facing off against Seattle. Videos shared by church members showed him emerging from the water with a smile, followed by ministers praying for him.
One churchgoer shared a personal story, mentioning how he was late to service due to misplacing his keys and ended up witnessing Hunter’s baptism. Expressing gratitude, he noted, “He asked me to come and be baptized before the game today. Thank you, Jesus, for touching this young man’s life!”
Hunter, selected as the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after a remarkable career at the University of Colorado, had a unique advantage. He won the Heisman Trophy while successfully playing both wide receiver and cornerback—a rare feat in a league that tends to specialize. In Jacksonville, he has recorded 20 receptions totaling 197 yards and made 15 tackles on defense.
This isn’t the first time Hunter has discussed his faith. Recently, he posted a Bible verse—Matthew 7:8—on his Instagram account. Also, during his Heisman Trophy acceptance speech last year, he emphasized gratitude to God, mentioning that he never expected to be in such a position, adding, “Your faith will take you a long way.”
His college coach, Deion Sanders, is known for openly sharing his Christian beliefs, often emphasizing the importance of faith in his life.
Although Jacksonville lost the match 20-12, the team has shown significant improvement from last season’s 4-13 record, already matching last year’s total wins and currently holding a 4-2 standing in the division.
