Social Security Payment Updates for October

This week marks the distribution of the second round of Social Security payments for October, and it’s also the first month under the new paperless initiative by the agency.

Beginning in October, the majority of recipients are required to establish direct deposit into their bank accounts or utilize a Direct Express card.

This transition away from paper checks towards direct deposits was prompted by an executive order signed by President Donald Trump in March, which mandated an end to the issuance of paper checks and set a compliance deadline of September 30.

Here’s what you should be aware of regarding this week’s Social Security payments.

Who Is Receiving Payments This Week?

Individuals born between the 11th and 20th of their birth month are scheduled to receive their Social Security benefits on Wednesday, October 15, per the SSA payment calendar.

Payment Schedule

Typically, Social Security benefits are disbursed on Wednesdays, primarily aimed at elderly or retired beneficiaries.

If a recipient’s birthday falls between the 1st and 10th, they can expect their payments on the second Wednesday of the month. Those born from the 11th to the 20th receive payments on the third Wednesday, while beneficiaries born after the 20th are paid on the fourth Wednesday.

For those who began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997, payments occur on the third day of the month, excluding weekends and holidays.

Furthermore, individuals receiving both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will find their Social Security payments arriving on the 3rd of the month, while SSI payments are sent on the 1st.

2025 Social Security Payment Calendar

The calendar for Social Security payments in 2025 outlines that recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks will receive payments on the first business day of each month, starting from October 1, 2025.

Payments for SSI checks will be distributed on the following dates through early 2026:

• Friday, October 31, 2025 (confirmed for November 2025)
• Monday, December 1, 2025 (confirmed for December 2025)
• Wednesday, December 31, 2025 (confirmed for January 2026)
• Friday, January 30, 2026 (confirmed for February 2026)
• Friday, February 27, 2026 (check for March 2026)
