Powerball Update: Jackpot Grows to $258 Million
The upcoming Powerball drawing is set for Monday night, following a weekend where no one claimed the jackpot on Saturday, October 11th. As of Monday, the estimated prize stood at $258 million, or $120.8 million if taken as a lump sum.
While the identities of the latest big winners haven’t been disclosed, this year has already seen some remarkable wins nationwide.
Record-Breaking Wins in 2025
This year has witnessed a few noteworthy Powerball jackpots. First, a staggering $1.787 billion was won in September, with the prize shared between two ticket holders. One winner, who remains anonymous, purchased their ticket for $893.5 million at a QuikTrip gas station in St. Louis, Missouri.
The winning numbers for this drawing were 11, 23, 44, 61, 62, and the Powerball number was 17. The Missouri winner split the pot with a second winner who bought a ticket at a convenience store in Fredericksburg, Texas. Interestingly, this was the second-highest jackpot in U.S. lottery history after a streak of 41 consecutive draws without a winner.
California’s Winning Ticket
In March, the Powerball announced a winner from California who claimed a jackpot of $526.5 million, with a cash value of $243.8 million. Originally estimated at $515 million, the jackpot increased due to high ticket sales. The ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven in Anaheim, and the winning numbers were white balls 7, 11, 21, 53, 61, and red Powerball number 2, with a power play multiplier of 3x.
This drawing also had five other winners, each taking home $1 million from locations in Ohio, Oregon, Texas, and two in Georgia.
Oregon’s Early 2025 Win
The first Powerball jackpot of 2025 came on January 18th when a player from Oregon matched all six numbers, winning $328.5 million with a cash value of $146.4 million. The winning numbers were white balls 14, 31, 35, 64, 69, and the Powerball number was 23, with a 2x power play multiplier. Notably, there was also a $2 million winning ticket from Michigan in that same drawing.
Identified as Abbas Shafi, a 79-year-old from Beaverton, Oregon, the jackpot winner reportedly purchased his ticket at a Fred Meyer convenience store. Plans for his winnings include travel, investment, and donations to non-profits.
