Video captures attacker surprising businessman outside his home

A shocking video captured the moment a gunman attacked a gas station owner outside his Michigan mansion, firing multiple shots at him as he attempted to escape in his SUV.

The surveillance footage revealed Eddie Jawad, who operates approximately 20 Pit Stop gas stations in the Detroit region, leaving his home in Macomb Township. Suddenly, a hooded assailant emerged from between two parked cars in his driveway.

The gunman wasted no time, opening fire on Jawad’s vehicle and chasing after him as he drove across his well-kept lawn.

Jawad, a father of five, shared with a local news outlet that he fired a warning shot, which was captured on camera while the assailant fled the scene.

At 61 years old, Jawad was shot in the leg and suffered some cuts from a shattered window. He received treatment at a nearby hospital and has since been released.

Authorities are still searching for the suspect, who remains unidentified. After jumping over the wall of the property, the gunman escaped in a black Range Rover SUV, as reported by local news.

The footage indicated that the attacker waited for around 45 minutes after entering the compound before targeting Jawad.

The reasons behind this morning attack remain unclear, though Jawad’s wife, Khadijeh, indicated it was not a robbery. Jawad himself, a Lebanese immigrant who has returned to work, expressed confusion about why anyone would want to harm him.

Macomb County Attorney Peter Lucido, who referred to Jawad as a “friend,” expressed disbelief over the incident occurring in what is usually a peaceful area.

He commented, “This is not freedom. People do not have the right to shoot at others simply because they are angry or offended.”

This incident followed an event in June, where Jawad was forcibly removed by police from a local council meeting for vocally opposing plans for a Sheetz store near 23 Mile Road and North Avenue, arguing that the area did not need another gas station. Despite his concerns about the potential impact on his business, the plans moved forward.

Jawad Group Investments is known for owning around 20 gas stations across southeastern Michigan.
