Trump administration seeks to cut Medicaid funding for undocumented immigrants

Investigation Uncovers Medicaid Payments to Illegal Immigrants

Dr. Mehmet Oz, who heads the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, recently announced that an internal investigation has revealed over $1 billion in Medicaid payments directed to illegal immigrants across various states. He indicated that the Trump administration is taking steps to address this issue.

On “Fox & Friends,” Oz criticized Democrats for what he perceives as their ongoing denial about Medicaid funding being allocated to undocumented individuals.

This matter is significantly affecting the ongoing government shutdown, which has now entered its third week. Republicans are accusing Democrats of permitting federal health care funds to support undocumented immigrants, while simultaneously obstructing attempts to eliminate unnecessary government spending.

Oz mentioned that the agency’s inquiry is still at an early stage and that the current figures reflect only a limited number of states.

Heathcare Funding Debate Continues

In states like Texas and Florida, where many residents contribute to federal taxes, Oz remarked that their tax money is being redirected to areas like California, which offer extensive benefits to illegal immigrants.

He added that they are committed to investigating this situation further across the country.

Meanwhile, Democrats are standing firm on their position regarding the government funding debate, insisting that they won’t agree to any bill that doesn’t strengthen the Affordable Care Act subsidies set to expire in 2025. They argue that without these measures, countless Americans might face rising insurance costs when the public offering starts next month.

Contentious Accusations Unfold

The White House, on the other hand, claims that Democrats are aiming to allocate billions towards Medicaid for undocumented individuals. They noted that the proposed plan could amount to nearly $200 billion over the next decade, which could cover the entire Children’s Health Insurance Program.

Oz described this funding debate as a moral issue, emphasizing that taxpayer funds shouldn’t be used for the healthcare of individuals who do not contribute to the system.

He stated, “You can’t just provide for able-bodied illegal immigrants because it’s viewed as the right thing to do.” Instead, he believes those receiving benefits should contribute financially.

Addressing Medicaid Loopholes

Despite federal regulations that prevent illegal immigrants from enrolling in Medicaid, some states have reportedly exploited loopholes to provide specific Medicaid-funded health services to these individuals.

Oz mentioned that his agency is actively working to close these loopholes.

He affirmed, “We will ensure that all of that money is returned to federal coffers. The president is dedicated to safeguarding American taxpayers.”
