Pentagon Criticizes Netflix’s “Boots” as “Woke Trash”
A spokesperson from the Pentagon has criticized Netflix’s new military series, “Boots,” labeling it “woke trash” in a statement released on Thursday.
Premiering on October 9, “Boots” features the story of Cameron Cope, a gay teenager, played by Miles Heiser, who enlists in the military during the 1990s when the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy was in effect. This policy, which prohibited openly gay, lesbian, and bisexual individuals from serving, remained U.S. military policy from 1993 until 2011.
In a statement reported by Entertainment Weekly, Pentagon spokesman Kingsley Wilson expressed disapproval of how the series portrays the military. He stated, “We’re not going to compromise our standards for an ideological agenda, unlike Netflix, whose leadership consistently produces and promotes woke garbage to viewers and children.”
Wilson continued, mentioning that under President Trump and Secretary Pete Hegseth, the military is focused on restoring its “warrior spirit.” He emphasized that physical standards in the military should be uniform and gender-neutral, pointing out that attributes like the weight of a backpack do not relate to someone’s sexual orientation.
The backlash comes shortly after Army Secretary Hegseth announced new personnel standards during a speech last month at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia. He criticized previous practices, declaring, “No more identity month, DEI Office, men in dresses. No more climate change worship. We’re done with distractions and gender paranoia.”
In this context, Hegseth asserted that the “defense sector” had become overly politicized and had compromised its standards to fit diversity programs instead of preparing for military readiness.
The debate around the portrayal of military standards and inclusivity continues as the show gains attention.
