Comedian Tig Notaro shared on his podcast Tuesday that he felt the need to distance himself from his friendship with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the husband of actress Cheryl Hines, due to their differing political views.
Notaro reflected on their past friendship and work together, including co-hosting the podcast *Tig and Sheryl: The True Story*, where they discussed various documentaries. He acknowledged Hines as one of his favorite friends for their fun moments together, but he believed it was necessary to step back once Kennedy’s presidential campaign commenced.
“Sheryl is married to Bobby Kennedy Jr., and when he announced his candidacy, I just felt it was time to distance myself because I had this belief that had been bothering me for years, and it seemed to be gaining attention,” Notaro remarked.
He pointed out that their friendship predated Hines’ marriage to Kennedy in 2014, but things became complicated once Kennedy expressed support for then-presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Notaro noted, “His interests in environmental law were like a persistent gnat to me. But when Kennedy began advocating for Trump, it grew even more challenging.” He mentioned that Hines encouraged him to listen to Kennedy’s ideas, but he struggled to align with them, stating, “I just couldn’t agree. I wasn’t on board with his beliefs, and that made it even tougher.”
Fox News Digital reached out to Notaro’s representatives for further insights, while Hines’ representative opted not to comment.
Throughout Kennedy’s campaign, Hines largely avoided discussing political topics. In a previous interview, she addressed navigating political differences with her husband.
“One thing I’ve learned in politics is that it’s perfectly normal not to agree on everything,” Hines explained. “We’ve figured out how to communicate about our disagreements. It’s about listening and sometimes accepting that we might need to agree to disagree.”
