Maher Questions Silence of Anti-Israel Protesters Amid Hamas Violence
As Hamas continues its violent actions against Palestinians in Gaza, late-night host Bill Maher has raised questions about the absence of anti-Israel protests at universities. On a recent episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” he asked billionaire Mark Cuban, “Where did all the college kids in keffiyeh go?” Maher noted that these students have suddenly become quiet as Hamas escalates its violence.
“Where are the protesters?” he probed, pointing out the noticeable silence of the students who once rallied passionately. Cuban’s response, “Shoot them all,” resonated with Maher, highlighting their shared sentiment.
This exchange comes after a wave of student-led demonstrations across the U.S. that prominently featured anti-Israel slogans and sometimes turned confrontational, leading to numerous arrests. Critics have voiced concerns, suggesting that supporting Palestine can sometimes blur the line between anti-war sentiments and backing Hamas.
Some American students are currently under scrutiny for connections to terrorist groups, which raises tensions further. Former President Donald Trump has repeatedly urged that visas for foreign students supporting Hamas be revoked.
Amid reports that Hamas has been directing its weapons against Palestinians, Maher has expressed confusion about the silence of former protesters. A video circulating online purportedly depicts Hamas fighters executing Palestinians in Gaza, with Reuters noting that the group has killed at least 33 individuals recently after a ceasefire with Israel had been established.
Trump condemned the video on his Truth Social platform, highlighting the gravity of the situation. In his commentary, Maher stressed the “asymmetry of what is happening” and pointed to the silence from former anti-Israel discontent.
Previously, Maher has critiqued elite universities, labeling them as “indoctrination factories” that might lean anti-American in their ideologies.
