Cuomo Warns of Socialism’s Impact on New York

In a recent statement, New York mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo cautioned voters about the dangers of socialism, suggesting that such policies might lead to the “death of New York.” He contended that these socialist movements are driving businesses out of urban areas and jeopardizing public safety.

“Regardless of whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, it’s going to be the death of New York as we know it,” Cuomo expressed during an interview on “Saturday in America.”

The former governor is currently engaged in a three-way race against fellow Democrat Zoran Mamdani and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

Cuomo’s campaign has prominently featured his opposition to socialist policies. He underscored the need to restore order and rebuild trust with the business community. “New York scared them. [Businesses] are heading to Florida. The democratic socialist movement isn’t new; it’s been growing over the years. It really took root in New York City,” he noted, referencing a recent trend of companies leaving the state.

He cited “hostility” towards business, pointing to the abandoned Amazon headquarters project which, he claimed, would have created 25,000 jobs. “That project was stopped by socialists,” he said.

Cuomo emphasized the importance of businesses, stating, “Business is the engine that moves the train. This is New York. We are the capitalist capital of this country.” He advocated for attracting entrepreneurs and talent, describing it as essential for opportunity and growth.

Moreover, he criticized the “anti-police” stance associated with the far-left, arguing that it has resulted in rising crime rates and fewer police on the streets. He added, “Far-left socialist ideas have drained the police budget, leading to a police force at a historic low.” If elected, he pledged to increase the police force by 5,000 officers.

Cuomo is appealing to moderate and Republican voters, framing his campaign as a mission to “rescue” New York City from ideological extremes. “To Republicans, I say: You’re New Yorkers. We’re all New Yorkers. This is about saving New York’s future,” he declared.
