Sherrill Vows to Challenge Trump’s Policies at Montclair Protest
New Jersey gubernatorial candidate Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.) participated in the “No Kings” protest in Montclair, asserting her commitment to resist President Donald Trump’s policies intensively.
“At every level, we see this president increasing costs for our citizens,” Sherrill expressed to the attendees.
She continued with, “There’s someone in D.C. who believes he can gain all the advantages just by holding the reins of power. We will resist that. We will fight back with everything we’ve got.”
Sherrill Criticizes Ciattarelli’s Trump Affiliation
The New Jersey Democratic Party is backing Sherrill strongly, with support from high-profile figures like former President Barack Obama and current Governor Phil Murphy, along with Senators Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Andy Kim (D-N.J.).
Earlier in the day, Sherrill joined a rally alongside Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.), both vocal critics of the Trump administration and the Republican gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli.
“What we face is a president who thinks he can intervene in any state, including ours, and act with impunity,” Gottheimer remarked, adding that Sherrill “will confront Donald Trump and advocate for us.”
Whitmer Critiques Ciattarelli’s Leadership
Whitmer slammed both the Trump administration and Ciattarelli, suggesting the GOP candidate “isn’t genuinely invested in fulfilling his role.” She emphasized that, if elected, Ciattarelli “will merely be taking directives from Washington, D.C.”
“In the last debate, he claimed to agree with everything the administration is doing, just as you all conventionally think that someone from Philadelphia makes a better Taylor ham and cheese,” said Whitmer, adding a light-hearted note about New Jersey’s local culinary pride.
Sherrill also accused Trump of engaging in what she described as a “global extortion scheme to enrich himself with billions in cryptocurrencies.” Additionally, she indicated that employers were looking to expand their staff last year, but now, job seekers are struggling, implying that the situation has worsened since Biden’s administration.
Close Election Race in New Jersey
With just 17 days left until the election, the polls in New Jersey suggest a competitive race. A recent Fox News poll from October 10-14 showed Sherrill with a 50% approval rating among voters, while Ciattarelli stood at 45%. This represents a decline in Sherrill’s lead, which was previously 8 points in a September survey conducted by Fox News.
