Rutgers University Faces Tensions Over Antifa Professor

New Brunswick, New Jersey – Officials at Rutgers University are addressing pressures concerning the removal of key members from the leadership of their Turning Point USA (TPUSA) chapter. This comes after a substantial vote from the university’s Senate to support Mark Bray, a professor known for his pro-Antifa views.

“We want students across the nation to understand the importance of speaking their minds now,” said Eva Kwan, the outreach coordinator for TPUSA, during an interview.

On Friday, the university Senate issued a resolution emphasizing “academic freedom and freedom of expression” in support of Bray, the author of “Antifa: An Anti-Fascist Handbook.” He has received significant criticism for his comments backing Antifa.

“Now is a crucial moment for us to uphold our beliefs and express the truth,” Kwan expressed. “It’s vital for conservative students everywhere to voice their thoughts. We’re here to boldly stand by what we believe.”

Megan Doyle, TPUSA’s chapter treasurer, underscored the necessity of advocating for their beliefs, insisting that the only way to enact change is through vocal opposition and actions like petitions. Their leadership roles are now reportedly in jeopardy, primarily because they initiated a petition for Bray’s removal.

In an email obtained by Fox News Digital, Karima Woodyard, a university official, suggested that both Doyle and Kwan should be removed from the board, asserting that they lack the qualifications for their positions.

Earlier this month, Doyle launched a petition advocating for Bray’s dismissal, citing his controversial comments regarding Antifa.

Bray, an assistant professor, has authored multiple works defending anarchist ideologies and the Antifa movement, voicing strong support for anti-fascism in various posts. He has stated that relying on legal frameworks may provide a false sense of security.

Doyle remarked that their opposition to Bray seems to be the sole reason for the call for their removal. “We haven’t been given a clear explanation for this investigation; our dissent against Bray is the likely cause,” she noted.

Kwan added, “We believe this action is politically motivated and unjust. There has been no issue with Megyn and me serving on the board until now.”

Kwan, who noted being targeted online, supports free speech but feels compelled to act against Bray’s associations with Antifa, mentioning, “We wish to engage with differing opinions, but Bray’s stance supports preemptive political violence against those he judges, which is concerning.”

In a statement, Rutgers acknowledged the situation, reiterating that TPUSA is a recognized student organization that must adhere to university policies. They pointed out that Doyle and Kwan do not meet the necessary registration criteria, which is under internal review to ensure compliance.

Fox News has reached out to Bray for his comments.

In a separate note, Bray recently shared plans to relocate his family to Europe, citing security concerns.
