Paul states that Caribbean strikes are contrary to our traditions.

Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) expressed his concerns on Sunday regarding the recent military strikes on suspected drug-trafficking boats in the Caribbean, stating that these actions “go against all of our traditions.”

During an interview on “Meet the Press,” NBC’s Kristen Welker questioned Paul about President Trump’s authorization for military strikes against suspected drug ships. She noted that these attacks have already resulted in the deaths of over 20 individuals. “Do you think this attack on these suspected drug ships is legal?” she asked.

Paul’s response was clear: “No, they go against all of our traditions. When you kill someone, if you’re not at war—if there’s no declaration of war—you really ought to know their name,” he stated.

He further elaborated, saying, “You have to accuse them of something. You need to provide some evidence. All these people were blown up without knowing their names or having proof of their crimes.”

In recent months, U.S. military forces have conducted several attacks targeting smuggling vessels in the Caribbean. President Trump has claimed that the U.S. is in a state of “armed conflict” with drug cartels, which the administration labels as terrorist organizations, asserting that this justifies the military actions.

Earlier in September, Paul criticized Vice President Vance for his remarks on the attacks against suspected drug vessels. Vance had suggested that “killing cartel members who poison our fellow citizens is the highest and best use of our military” in a post he made on a social media platform.

In reaction to Vance’s statement, Paul later remarked, “Has he ever read ‘A Tale of Alabama’? Has he ever considered what would happen if those accused were executed without trial or discussion? What a despicable and thoughtless sentiment to glorify killing without a trial.”

The Hill has contacted the White House for a response regarding Paul’s interview.
