Tragic News: Jesús Montero Passes Away at 35
Jesús Montero has received an outpouring of love from his ex-wife, Tanez Jiménez, following his untimely death at the age of 35 due to a motorcycle accident, as reported by the team on Sunday.
Earlier this month, Montero was involved in a serious accident in Venezuela that left him in a coma, with various injuries, according to a GoFundMe page set up to assist with his hospital bills.
In the wake of this news, Jiménez shared several photos on her Instagram Story featuring Montero and their two children, Lauren and Jesús.
“Rest in peace, Jesus Montero,” she wrote, adding a cross emoji.
She went on to express a wish to hold onto the good memories they created together, saying, “I want to keep the good memories etched in my soul.”
Originally from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, Jiménez is a model and fitness instructor. Reports suggest that they first met while visiting the beaches of Molokoy Island in Venezuela.
Montero was signed by the Yankees as an international free agent in 2006 at just 16 years old for $1.6 million. He quickly garnered attention as a potential star, although he never completely fulfilled that promise.
He made his debut as the Yankees’ top prospect in 2011, at the age of 21. During that season, Montero made a significant impression, hitting .328 with a .996 OPS and four home runs in 18 games. He was included in the postseason roster, where he had a brief but noteworthy appearance, going 2-for-2 in his only playoff game against the Tigers.
Following his time with the Yankees, Montero was traded to Seattle for Michael Pineda and played four seasons there. His last game in the major leagues took place in 2015.
The Yankees expressed their condolences, saying, “We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”
