Tracker Season 3 Premieres with Major Cast Changes
Tracker has made its much-anticipated return with the premiere of Season 3, but fans of CBS’ popular survival drama might be taken aback by some significant cast alterations this time around.
When Tracker kicked off its second season, viewers were surprised to find that Robin Weigert, who portrayed Teddy in the first season, was no longer part of the show. Now, as we dive into Season 3, additional characters are departing, including Abby McEnany’s Velma and Eric Glaze’s Bobby.
The Season 3 premiere, titled “The Process,” is set to air on Sunday, October 19th, on CBS and will be available for streaming the following day on Paramount+. If you’re interested in how Bobby’s character is rated before tuning in—or if you’re just curious about what led to Grey’s exit from the show—we’ve got some insights for you.
Reasons Behind Eric Glaze’s Departure from Tracker
Eric Glaze, an original cast member since Season 1, played Bobby Exley, the tech whizz supporting Colter in tracking down missing persons. Fans were understandably shocked to hear about Glaze’s exit. Why did he leave? After Bobby’s cousin Randy made an appearance, viewers started to wonder since Bobby was largely absent from much of Season 2.
There were murmurs of “family issues,” and Bobby was grieving over a close friend’s funeral—something which understandably affected him. However, with Randy asserting, “He’s going to come back. If he doesn’t, I’ll make sure he comes back,” fans were optimistic about his return. So what’s the story? Although the details behind Grey’s departure ahead of Season 3 in July 2025 are still unclear, reports indicated that both Grey and McEnany were let go from the series.
As of now, Glaze hasn’t made any public comments about his exit, but back in May, showrunner Elwood Reed mentioned, “I don’t want it to be a show where I call my friends every week.” He seemed to suggest that the dynamics of the show were evolving and didn’t hinge on old-fashioned interactions.
Insights from Showrunner About Cast Changes
In a September 2025 interview, Reed elaborated further on the decisions surrounding the cast exits, clarifying, “We didn’t ‘replace’ Velma or Bobby.” He explained that the creative process was being driven by new character dynamics. With more characters interacting, fresh narratives could emerge, allowing for richer storytelling.
Reed added that “Bobby felt like he was firmly in his place, while Randy was roaming the place.” This suggests that Bobby’s exit was part of a broader strategy to deepen other characters, like Renee, who has found herself in a precarious situation due to certain plot developments.
Bobby’s Exit Explained in Season 3
So, how does Bobby’s departure play out? During Season 3, Episode 1, “The Process,” Reenie and Randy have a quick discussion, during which Randy receives a text from Bobby saying, “Thx. Miss u 2. Tell the Gang the hell I’s hell.” When asked how Bobby is doing, Randy shares that he has left his repair shop job and has become a crypto expert at a startup, suggesting he’s moving on successfully.
Just before Velma’s exit is noted, Randy also inquires about her whereabouts, to which Reenie replies that Velma is trying to save her marriage and is off seeing Teddy.
Casting Doubts: Will Bobby or Eric Glaze Return?
I can’t help but wonder whether Bobby and Glaze—and Velma/McEnany—are truly gone for good, or if there’s a chance they might return someday. Some reports suggest it’s a possibility, but nothing is set in stone for Season 3. Essentially, it might not be the end for these characters, but fans shouldn’t get their hopes too high just yet.
As we gear up for more episodes, it looks like we’ll be witnessing a new dynamic between Reenie and Randy in the absence of Bobby and Velma.
The new episode of Tracker Season 3 premieres Sunday on CBS, followed by streaming availability on Paramount+ the next day.
