Keith Urban criticizes his marriage to Nicole Kidman on 'The Road': 'draining routine'

Keith Urban’s Marriage Reflections Amid Split

Before the announcement of their separation, Keith Urban seemed to express some discontent regarding his marriage to Nicole Kidman. Urban recently appeared on CBS’s new show, “The Road,” which follows twelve aspiring musicians. During the series premiere, he performed his song “Straight Line” from his album “High.”

In February 2024, he shared with fans that the song addresses the struggle of breaking free from a monotonous life. He stated, “‘Straight Line’ is about relationships, work, creativity, yourself… whatever it is, you want to break out of the soul-sucking routine you might be stuck in!!” His sentiment was meant to resonate with listeners, urging them to feel rejuvenated.

Urban added that the song conveys a desire to reconnect with life, encouraging others to embrace that feeling as well. He chose “Straight Line” as the lead single because, in his view, it perfectly captures the album’s energy and spirit. “This album will cover many themes, emotions and vibes,” he stated, but emphasized a common thread of human spirit throughout.

Before the news of his split with Kidman became public in September, Urban was actively filming “The Road.” The couple, married for 19 years, officially separated when Kidman filed for divorce on September 30th. Earlier in the episode, Urban opened up about feeling “alone and miserable” on tour, discussing the toll it takes on him personally.

He described the grueling experience of waking up on a tour bus in discomfort and isolation, questioning his motivations while asserting, “Because I was born to do it.” Urban expressed a desire to discover those destined for a similar path in his new show.

After Kidman’s filing, reports emerged that they had been living apart since early summer. Sources indicated that while their lives were diverging, indicators of their separation had been evident for some time, especially after Urban moved out of his parents’ home.

Some insiders noted that it wasn’t really a surprise among their close circles, suggesting that many anticipated the breakup. On top of that, there are circulating rumors that Urban may already be seeing someone new, which has left Kidman feeling shocked.

They share two daughters, Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14, after marrying in 2006.
