Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Virginia, Abigail Spanberger, expresses support for open borders, stating her intention to “protect everyone who might be interested” in immigrating to the U.S.
“I really want to ensure that everyone who has the desire to come to the United States—whether it’s for asylum, work, or as a refugee—feels protected,” Spanberger remarked in a video.
Following her remarks, various officials, including White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, pointed out that the Democratic stance reflects a commitment to “unlimited immigration.”
Miller stated, “The Democratic Party is fully committed to the principle of unlimited immigration into our communities.”
“Even ‘moderate’ Democrats are complete open border advocates,” someone remarked, asserting strong opposition to allowing Democrats to regain power.
Brianna Lyman, elections correspondent for The Federalist, criticized commentary from figures like Joe Rogan, suggesting that given the option, Democrats prioritize voter registration over deportation. She claimed that undocumented immigrants not deported would eventually receive amnesty and the right to vote.
During a September event hosted by the University of Virginia Center for Politics, Spanberger addressed the question of supporting fair immigration reform while maintaining Virginia’s welcoming nature, declaring the U.S. immigration system as “truly broken.”
She also criticized the notion of local police functioning as ICE officers, emphasizing that their role should focus on community policing—investigating crimes, ensuring public security, and executing necessary warrants.
In a conversation with Virginia Mercury, Spanberger further stated that she would revoke an executive order from Governor Glenn Youngkin (R), which mandates local law enforcement and state entities to collaborate with ICE agents.
