Brandon Aubrey Makes NFL History with Cowboys

Finding a dependable kicker in the NFL is often tricky. Just look at the struggles of the New York Giants.

In a recent game against the Washington Commanders, Brandon Aubrey of the Dallas Cowboys showcased his talent, making headlines with a remarkable performance.

During a 44-22 victory, Aubrey nailed a 61-yard field goal, marking his fifth career field goal from over 60 yards. Notably, he became the first kicker in NFL history to achieve such a milestone.

“The kicker will only improve year by year, and it’s going to be tough to hold onto that record,” he told reporters after the game. “It feels good.”

Aubrey expressed pride in his unique kicking ability, noting, “I think I’ve probably set myself apart with a particular skill that’s hard to replicate. I want to keep demonstrating that every week.”

This season, Aubrey has converted all 15 of his field goal attempts. The Cowboys signed him before the 2023 season, where he gained recognition in the USFL playing for the Birmingham Stallions and was named a first-team All-Pro.

Interestingly, Aubrey didn’t start out as a kicker. He was actually a standout soccer player while attending Notre Dame before moving to professional soccer with Toronto FC and Bethlehem Steel FC in the United Soccer League.

His performance has certainly raised the bar for other kickers in the league, making it evident that reliability in such a crucial role is something teams are now striving for.
