New White House Ballroom Construction Begins
On Monday, President Donald Trump shared that the construction of a new, privately funded White House Ballroom has officially commenced. This ballroom is intended to host state visits and various large events, part of an ongoing renovation of the East Wing.
“I’m excited to announce that we have broken ground for a beautiful new White House Ballroom,” President Trump posted on Truth Social. “The East Wing, completely separate from the main White House, has undergone a thorough modernization, which will enhance its beauty even further once finished.”
He expressed pride in being the first president to finally realize a dream that has existed for over 150 years—the need for a ballroom suitable for hosting significant gatherings. “What’s even more special is that this project comes at zero cost to American taxpayers,” he added. “It is funded by many generous patriots and great American businesses. This ballroom will serve future generations well!”
According to White House press secretary Caroline Levitt, the ballroom’s construction is expected to be a $200 million project, aiming for completion well before the end of Trump’s term.
In addition to this, Trump had previously funded the placement of two 88-foot-tall American flags on the White House, which each, it seems, cost around $50,000.
Levitt explained that currently, large events honoring global leaders necessitate setting up a temporary and, frankly, unattractive tent about 100 meters away from the main building. She emphasized that the new ballroom will be a crucial addition.
Security enhancements are also expected, with the U.S. Secret Service ensuring that necessary modifications are made during the construction phase.
The project aims to create a dedicated venue for official functions, state banquets, and large ceremonial events.
This new ballroom will span 90,000 square feet and will accommodate roughly 650 seated guests, designed to mirror the classic aesthetics of the original White House. Currently, there is no formal ballroom in the White House, making this addition particularly significant.
McCreary Architects have been chosen to design this ambitious project, while Clark Construction is overseeing the construction, and AECOM is providing engineering assistance.
