Keith Urban Reflects on Personal Struggles Amid New Show Launch

Keith Urban appears to have been considering his relationship with Nicole Kidman for some time before their recent split.

Returning to TV, Urban, 57, premiered his reality series “The Road” on Sunday. The show features emerging musicians vying for a chance to open for established artists on their national tours.

During the premiere, Urban performed “Straight Line,” a track from his upcoming album, “High.” This song marks the beginning of his 12th studio album, set to release in September 2024. On Instagram, he shared that the song stems from a desire to escape a “soul-sucking routine.”

Urban commented on his social media in February 2024, stating, “I picked this song first for many reasons, particularly because it captures the consistent energy and essence of the whole album.” He noted that the album will explore various themes and emotions, but it carries a core human spirit.

Describing the meaning behind “Straight Line,” Urban mentioned that it’s about breaking free from a draining routine—whether that relates to relationships, work, creativity, or one’s self. He conveyed it as a reminder to feel alive and emerge from darker times.

While this episode was filmed prior to Kidman filing for divorce in September, Urban disclosed that he felt exceptionally “alone and miserable” during his tours.

“Where do I even start? It’s this calling, you know—it’s like either you pursue it or you don’t,” he said. He articulated how tough it can be to wake up on a tour bus in discomfort, questioning the very reasons behind his choices.

Urban acknowledged, “When you find yourself in the middle of nowhere, feeling sick, preparing for yet another show without any support—no friends, no family—it’s hard not to wonder, ‘Why am I doing this?'”

Addressing the reality show, he stated, “This is what I was born to do. We’ll discover together who truly belongs here.”

Meanwhile, Kidman, 58, and Urban were recently seen together at a soccer match in June. She filed for divorce that September, citing “irreconcilable differences” and mentioning “marital issues” in the documents.

In her divorce request, Kidman sought primary custody of their two children, proposing a parenting scheme that would grant her 306 days with them annually while allowing Urban 59 days.
