Sean “Diddy” Combs has reportedly survived a frightening incident while in prison, based on statements from a close friend of the rapper.
Charlucci Finney informed the Daily Mail that Combs claimed he “woke up with a knife to his throat” in his cell at the Metropolitan Detention Center. The details surrounding this event remain unclear, including when it occurred. Finney, who has known Combs for over three decades, remarked, “I don’t know if he fought him off or if security came.” What he does know is that the incident took place.
Finney speculated that the encounter might have been intended more as a threat rather than an intent to inflict harm. He pointed out that if the individual had meant to seriously harm Combs, it could have been done swiftly. He added, “It was probably a warning, like saying, ‘I won’t be this lucky next time.’” Finney described this act as a form of blackmail, which he believes won’t work on someone like Combs, who has strong roots in Harlem.
He described Combs, aged 55, as “invincible” and emphasized his qualities as a loving caregiver, father, and friend.
Finney expressed confidence that Combs would find a way to maintain his identity once he is released. Combs’ legal team has not yet provided comments following these revelations.
Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records, has been incarcerated in Brooklyn since his arrest in September 2024 on charges including sex trafficking and extortion. He was found guilty in July of that year on two counts related to transportation for prostitution.
Last month, he was sentenced to four years and two months in federal prison, along with requirements for mental health and substance abuse treatment, and a fine of $500,000. His lawyers had sought an early release, arguing that Combs had served more than a year in a challenging prison environment and claimed he was on “constant suicide watch.” They mentioned an incident where a fellow inmate approached him with a makeshift weapon.
In a recent filing, Combs had submitted a letter to the judge, stating he was sober and acknowledged his past mistakes. Additionally, 75 support letters were submitted on his behalf, including one from ex-girlfriend Cassandra “Kathy” Ventura, who described the lasting impact of their tumultuous relationship over a decade.
Ventura expressed deep concern for her safety regarding potential retaliation upon Combs’ release, despite having made progress in her recovery. She shared her ongoing fear of his reaction to her speaking out about their past.
