Michael Rapaport criticizes Zohran Mamdani for eating at an expensive NYC restaurant while residing in a rent-stabilized apartment: 'Fraud class'

Actor and podcaster Michael Rapaport has criticized Democratic mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani for dining at a pricey restaurant while living in a rent-stabilized apartment.

On social media, Rapaport shared a photo of Mamdani enjoying a meal at Omen Azen in Manhattan, a place known for its extravagant menu, including a $27 caviar appetizer and a $50 sashimi platter.

“What does it say about a ‘working class’ candidate like Zoran Mamdani dining at OMEN SUSHI, one of New York’s fanciest spots?” Rapaport questioned on X. He further remarked, “Here’s a ‘common guy’ from Queens dining like a diplomat on a scholarship from Qatar. Who’s footing the bill, you fool Zoron? You’re not working class; you’re crook class.”

Rapaport’s outburst comes after Mamdani won the Democratic primary in June and emphasized affordability during his campaign, proposing ideas like free bus fares, a rent freeze, and city-run grocery stores.

In a recent debate, Mamdani mentioned he spends about $150 weekly on groceries, though the tasting menu at Omen Azen costs $145 and features high-end dishes like filet mignon and sashimi.

“Did he take public transport back to his rent-stabilized apartment in Queens?” Rapaport added on Instagram, noting his preference for formerly Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is running independently.

It’s uncertain if Rapaport took the dining photo of Mamdani, who was seen with his wife at the trendy restaurant, known to attract celebrities.

This jab came just after Cuomo was labeled as a “son of riches” unfit for city government.

Cuomo commented, “He grew up in Uganda, in a palace, essentially. I grew up in a Manhattan penthouse, went to private schools, earned $60,000 a year, and attended Bowdoin College.”

Mamdani’s family ties have previously raised eyebrows, particularly since his mother, filmmaker Mira Nair, has connections with a Qatari state-funded cultural organization, which Rapaport highlighted in his remarks.

Mamdani’s campaign did not respond to requests for comment from The Post.
