Aaron Rodgers’ Touchdown Celebration Takes a Turn
Aaron Rodgers stole the spotlight last Thursday with an impressive touchdown pass against the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, what really captured attention was a comical incident that happened afterward during the fourth quarter.
Rodgers was celebrating a significant 68-yard play by tight end Pat Freiermuth, which had given the Steelers a lead over the Cincinnati Bengals. Yet, the excitement was interrupted when offensive tackle Broderick Jones jumped on Rodgers in a rush to join the celebration, causing both to tumble to the ground.
Rodgers was understandably not pleased about it. On Wednesday, he opened up about why he was upset.
“You don’t see it in the video, but right after I threw, he comes up to me and shakes me and shakes me,” Rodgers recounted. “I texted him, ‘Hey, I love your energy. I love everything about you. But I’m 41 years old. You can’t tackle me outside,’” he said, showing a mix of humor and irritation.
The Steelers, despite this minor setback in their celebration, enjoyed a memorable night, winning against the Bengals 33-31 in their first home game since Joe Flacco’s trade to the Cleveland Browns. Flacco’s performance was particularly strong, securing a crucial win for the team.
In terms of stats, Rodgers logged 249 yards along with four touchdowns and two interceptions during the game. Although he did not get sacked, which is noteworthy, he’s not eager for any future tackling attempts from Jones.
Jones, a hefty 6-foot-5 and 311 pounds, didn’t shut the door on the idea entirely, saying, “It’s just the energy that he brings and that I bring. He told me, ‘Don’t lose your fire,’ and I told him the same thing. If he throws another touchdown on Sunday, I might tackle him again.”
This upcoming Sunday will be particularly significant for Rodgers as he faces his former team, the Green Bay Packers, for the first time since joining the New York Jets two seasons ago. Rodgers, who was drafted 24th overall in 2005, expressed that he holds no grudges against the organization.
“I wish things could have gone better in my last year there,” he shared. “I still have great relationships with a lot of people in that organization, and this is not a revenge story for me. I’m excited to meet some of those guys and to be on ‘Sunday Night Football’ again,” he noted, emphasizing a sense of appreciation rather than animosity.
As the bright lights of Acresure Stadium prepare to shine for the evening game, it’s clear Rodgers might not consider this a revenge match, but he certainly seems motivated to score as many touchdowns as he can against the team he once called home. He’ll be hoping to stay upright throughout the game while doing so.
