Jelly Roll Reflects on His Past Mistakes
Jelly Roll recently opened up about a particularly low point in his life—cheating on his wife, Bunny XO. He described this moment as one of the toughest experiences of his adult life during an appearance on the Human School Podcast.
“I don’t usually share this, but I was really blindsided. I know I love this woman, but I still messed up,” he said, expressing his surprise at his actions. “I worked hard to mend our relationship after that.” Jelly Roll and Bunny XO tied the knot in 2016 and reaffirmed their vows in 2023.
Facing Criticism
In the midst of this, Jelly Roll’s wife has dealt with negative feedback regarding their impact on the country music scene, suggesting it’s tough when public opinion is unkind.
The “Son of a Sinner” artist also reflected on how he feels about their marriage today. He mentioned, “The repair was special. We’ve come out stronger than ever. I never wanted things to go that way, but I can’t deny the growth we’ve experienced.”
Looking back, he noted that the company he kept didn’t help matters. “I was surrounding myself with people who were also making bad choices,” he shared. “It was a toxic mix.” He admitted he’d sometimes boast about long friendships, which, in hindsight, felt misguided.
Past Struggles
While the timeline of the affair remains vague, Bunny XO has hinted at their rough patch in a TikTok post. She wrote about their unexpected separation in 2018 and how they eventually found their way back to each other amidst life’s chaos. “We had to rebuild from the ground up, but we’re committed to each other now,” she expressed.
The couple first met in 2015, and a year later, they eloped after Jelly Roll proposed during a concert. They celebrated their love with a vow renewal years later in the same Las Vegas chapel where they initially married.
Keys to Their Strong Marriage
During an interview at the 2024 CMT Music Awards, Jelly Roll shared the importance of open communication in their relationship. “We tackle tough conversations right away,” he said. Having a laugh, he believes, makes a huge difference too. “We try not to take ourselves too seriously. If we mess up, we find the humor in it.”
