Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s latest book, The Independent, released this week, has drawn criticism from liberal interviewers as she defends former President Joe Biden and shares her reasons for leaving the Democratic Party.

During her interviews, her assertion that the party let Biden down by pushing him out of the 2024 race faced tough questioning from CBS hosts Tony Dokoupil and Gayle King. Dokoupil remarked, “Some Americans will say, ‘Seriously?'” Jean-Pierre maintained that she had not encountered anything that made her doubt Biden’s mental acuity, despite various reports suggesting otherwise.

King further probed into Biden’s mental state, linking Jean-Pierre’s departure from the party to her dissatisfaction with its current dynamics, especially in the context of the Trump administration. “I want to understand what Tony said, because that’s what I thought too,” King expressed. “You noted that you were part of the inner circle and didn’t see any decline. During her appearance with Stephen Colbert, Jean-Pierre faced similar pushback on her narrative of Democrats betraying Biden. Colbert, a firm Biden supporter, remarked on his concerns about Biden’s health after witnessing a stark difference in him at a charity event just months apart.
