Democratic Donors Pull Support from Harris Fundraiser
Some Democratic donors are reportedly dissatisfied with Kamala Harris and the Democratic National Committee (DNC), leading to withdrawals from a fundraising event for Harris.
A report from The Wall Street Journal highlighted that several invitees responded to the invitations with strong refusals, sometimes using profanity. Many expressed reluctance to contribute until the party outlines a clear strategy for winning the upcoming election. Those who opted out informed the National Party that they had promises but were unable to fulfill them.
A report stated that Democratic donors have stepped back from Harris’ fundraising event, with some responses described as “profane refusals.” The DNC, meanwhile, is facing challenges in fundraising during President Donald Trump’s second term. Earlier this year, the DNC attempted to engage major donors through a fundraiser in San Francisco, but most declined to participate, according to sources familiar with the discussions.
With one person reportedly responding with a profanity-laden refusal, many donors have voiced their unwillingness to provide financial support until the party presents a solid plan for electoral success. Those who rejected the invitations told the National Party they felt unable to deliver on previous commitments.
The DNC is also engaged in paying off outstanding debts from Harris’ previous campaign. According to a separate report from The New York Post, the DNC has been addressing a $1.6 million shortfall resulting from Harris’ unsuccessful 2024 campaign, with that amount repaid just last month, as revealed in federal filings.
Since the election, the total debt covered has exceeded $20 million. Expenses from Harris’ campaign included significant spending on media production and consulting, as well as costs for data services and venue rentals for a planned event in Grand Rapids, Michigan, set for October 2024.
