While book sales in the U.S. are on the decline, Bible sales are, surprisingly, on the rise.
According to data from the Wall Street Journal, Bible sales grew by 11 percent during the first nine months of 2025, even as overall paper book sales dropped by 1 percent.
Further details from Circana BookScan indicated a remarkable spike of 36% in Bible sales for September alone, amidst a backdrop of notable violence in the country, including school shootings and the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
The year-on-year trend shows that Bible sales in 2025 are following a similar trajectory, mirroring a reported 22% increase in the first ten months of 2024, significantly outpacing general book sales.
It’s not just an American phenomenon.
For instance, data from Nielsen BookScan reveals that Bible sales in the UK have nearly doubled over five years, climbing from £2.69 million in 2019 to £5.02 million in 2024. There’s even potential for a similar revival in Canada; in 2024, the Canadian Bible Society distributed over 631,000 Bibles and selections, 20% more than the previous year.
Evangelist and author Nick Hall suggested that this increase reflects a renewed interest in faith. Hall, who leads Pulse Evangelism, remarked, “Youth pastors tell me how exciting this moment is; people are genuinely hungry for meaning. We’re in a time where shelter is needed, and when God is moving, we need to be ready to follow.”
Other findings indicate a spiritual shift in the culture.
Research by April Barna highlights that 66% of U.S. adults acknowledge the significance of Jesus in their lives, marking a 12-point increase since 2021.
Barna noted, “This change isn’t just statistically significant; it could signify a true spiritual revival in the U.S.”
First publication date is October 24, 2025.
