Josh Hart dominates rebounds in Knicks season opener

Josh Hart Shines in Season Debut

Josh Hart’s much-anticipated season opener certainly lived up to expectations.

Despite grappling with back stiffness, Hart delivered a “monster” performance during the Knicks’ 105-95 victory over the Celtics, which drew praise from Mike Brown.

Coming off the bench, Hart snagged an impressive 14 rebounds in just 19 minutes.

Even though Jordan Clarkson took home the Brown Defensive Player of the Year award, Hart’s dogged defense made a strong case for him as a runner-up. He was relentless against Boston’s players.

“Josh was a monster, just a monster,” Brown exclaimed. “He not only defended everyone but also managed six offensive and eight defensive rebounds. It was an outstanding performance where he truly did the dirty work with 14 rebounds in under 20 minutes.”

Although Hart wore a splint on his injured right ring finger, his shooting was subpar—only managing 1-of-8 from the field for a total of two points.

Nevertheless, his hustle on the court compensated for the shooting struggles, as he dazzled with energy and tenacity, with Brown highlighting his dominance on the boards.

“We anticipated some roughness in the offense,” Hart reflected. “Since it was my first game back, I felt I needed to contribute.” He added three assists without committing any turnovers, expressing satisfaction with the win and a desire to keep building on this performance.

Hart, recovering from an injury sustained during a preseason game in Abu Dhabi, is still fine-tuning his conditioning. He even laughed at himself for his single successful 3-point shot.

Despite Brown’s transition as the NBA’s seventh coach in nine seasons, Hart is optimistic about finding his rhythm in the new system.

All in all, Hart described Friday as “a successful first day in office,” capturing the excitement of the moment.

“It was incredible,” Brown remarked. “Watching him play like that in such a short period was amazing. He provided a huge lift for our team, and I was thrilled to see him on the court.”
