Bijou Phillips seeks to take Masterson out of her daughter’s last name

Danny Masterson’s former wife, Bijou Phillips, is reportedly making moves to dissociate her family from the disgraced actor, currently serving time for rape in a California prison. On Friday, October 24, Phillips, aged 45, filed an application to legally change their 11-year-old daughter’s name from Fianna Frances Masterson to Fianna Frances Phillips. The request is now pending approval from a judge.

Interestingly, on the same day, a judge also declared that Phillips and Masterson’s marital status is now officially “single.”

Masterson, who is 49, is incarcerated at North Kern State Prison following a conviction for raping two women, a verdict reached in a widely publicized retrial in 2023.

In a significant shift, Phillips filed for divorce right after the verdict, ending their 12-year marriage. Court documents show that Masterson has requested that Phillips receive both physical and legal custody of Fianna.

Looking ahead, Masterson’s legal team filed a challenge regarding the 2023 rape conviction in December 2024. They argue that procedural and substantive errors during the trial call the fairness of the verdict into question.

Masterson was initially facing a potential sentence of up to 45 years in prison. He was convicted on three counts of rape stemming from incidents that took place at his Hollywood Hills residence between 2001 and 2003. Following his arrest in June 2020, he was released on a bail of $3.3 million, all the while maintaining his innocence.
