Giants understand that their victory against the Eagles won't impact this rematch.

PHILADELPHIA — A Different Perspective

It would have been interesting if the Giants could have approached this game as if it were a fresh start, or perhaps like a continuation from that earlier matchup 17 days ago. If that were the case, they might feel buoyed by a hypothetical 34-17 lead. However, the Eagles seem to be grappling with their usual dominance in the run game and at the line of scrimmage against the Giants.

But that’s not really the vibe right now.

The two teams recently clashed at MetLife Stadium on October 9th, where the Giants found a spark, leading to a significant triumph that changed the course of their season. Since their last encounter, both teams have had markedly different outcomes, and now they face off again at Lincoln Financial Field—a notable rematch so quickly after their initial battle.

Reflecting on the circumstances, tight end Daniel Bellinger shared, “From the outside looking in, it’s like, ‘Oh, we just played this stuff with them,’ and that’s how you feel as a player. But at the end of the day, we have to put everything behind us and treat this as a new week.” He emphasized the need to reset mentally, regardless of having faced the same opponent recently.

The Giants were hopeful that their decisive win against the Eagles would serve as a launchpad for greater success. Following that victory, they faced the Broncos and appeared in control with a 19-0 lead. But then everything unraveled into a shocking 33-32 loss, marred by late-game errors and an unexpected comeback led by rookie quarterback Jackson Dart.

Following their loss on “Thursday Night Football,” the Eagles regrouped. They had received criticism for falling short of their Super Bowl-winning form from the previous year, but they rebounded with a strong performance against the Vikings, where Jalen Hurts shone with a flawless game and a 28-22 victory.

The question now is whether the Giants can replicate their earlier success against the Eagles.

It’s worth noting that the Giants haven’t dominated the Eagles in a two-game season series since 2007, around the time when Dart was just a kid. They’ve not managed a victory on the road in this rivalry since 2013, with a record of 12 wins and 12 losses over that stretch.

Still, the Giants can take pride in their current winning streak against the Eagles.

Right tackle Jermaine Elemunah voiced some skepticism about repeating their previous success, stating, “Just because the first game went well doesn’t mean the second game will be exactly the same. That’s a game I don’t accept.”

Since taking over as the starter three games into the season, Dart has been working to differentiate the current Giants from past struggling squads. In his first matchup against the Eagles, he made an impact, scoring a 20-yard touchdown and connecting with Wan’Dale Robinson for another, while overseeing an offense that showcased three rushing touchdowns by rookie Cam Scatterbo.

Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio acknowledged Dart’s abilities, remarking, “One lesson learned: Teams that need a quarterback to get around them are going to regret it. He’s obviously athletic and an elite scrambler. Their coaches have done a great job constructing the offense around him.”

This upcoming game will serve as Dart’s second encounter with an NFL team.

Dart noted the unique challenge of quickly turning around from a previous game against the same team, saying, “I mean, I don’t think I’ve ever done it before, especially a change of direction this quickly. It’s going to be a chess match; we all need to understand what the other side is doing.”

The Eagles, now more aware of Dart’s capabilities, may need to adapt their strategies.

He expressed optimism about his evolution as a player, stating, “I try to find trends in my game and make the necessary adjustments, but at the same time, the playmaker just finds a way to make plays. I think that’s been my mindset.”
