Cheryl Hines Talks Moving from Hollywood to Politics

Cheryl Hines is opening up about her significant transition: leaving the bright lights of Hollywood for the political scene in Washington, D.C.

The star of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and author of “Unscripted” shared with Fox News Digital that stepping into the political arena alongside her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., presented its own set of challenges.

“Moving from Hollywood to D.C. felt a bit daunting at first, like starting over, although I’m not even 35 yet,” Hines chuckled. “It’s a little tough, but being around all these fascinating, intelligent folks in D.C. has been a learning experience for me.”

“It kind of energized my life,” she added, noting the thrill of discovering new things quickly.

The Emmy-nominated actress noted that reactions within Hollywood to her husband’s presidential campaign were mixed.

“Moving from Hollywood to D.C. was scary at first.”

“As Bobby started running, there were definitely varied responses,” she revealed. “Many in Hollywood and the entertainment industry weren’t exactly supportive.”

Despite this, Hines said that the experience helped her identify true friends, strengthening those bonds further.

She expressed surprise at how many people from different political backgrounds reached out to assist her husband.

“I think what caught me off guard was the amount of support Bobby received from Democrats, independents, and Republicans. Usually, candidates have one faction supporting them. So it was nice to see this broader backing.”

Although the move from Hollywood to D.C. felt “scary” initially, Hines has grown to embrace it.

“Change is always good, but it’s not easy. At times you might dread it, but eventually, you realize why it’s necessary,” she reflected. “I’m choosing to lean into it.”

Aside from navigating the political scene, Hines has been there for her husband through his ups and downs, recently discussing the intense scrutiny and safety risks his campaign has brought.

She revealed that Bobby even suggested they pretend to be separated at some point to lessen public attention: “He thought it might help to say we were apart, but I wasn’t convinced that would change anything.”

Reflecting on their relationship, Hines emphasized the challenges they face together: “The idea of saying we’re not together to make things easier? That felt dramatic.”

In her new memoir, “Unscripted,” Hines recounts her journey from a bartender in Los Angeles to achieving fame on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

When asked about advice from her friend and co-star, Larry David, she mentioned that while he doesn’t often give advice, he once expressed his lack of concern over her actions, which gave her a boost.

With “Unscripted” set to release on November 11th, Hines shared that the book captures both personal and professional challenges: “Life isn’t perfect. I lost my nephew during Bobby’s campaign, and it truly was a dramatic period. We all face challenges, but facing them is part of life.”
