Pennsylvania Man Charged with Attempted Murder of Police Officers
A young man from Pennsylvania, identified as Dalton Lee Janicek, is facing serious charges after an alarming incident involving police. Authorities report that the 21-year-old, who is said to come from a well-off background, intentionally drove his Mercedes G-Wagen into multiple officers, striking one while he was already down.
Janicek has been charged with attempted murder due to this violent act, which occurred last week, according to the Montgomery County District Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The situation began when police attempted to pull Janicek over for what was described as a routine traffic violation around noon on Friday in Whitpain Township, a suburb near Philadelphia. Instead of complying, Janicek fled the scene.
Prosecutors stated that he managed to navigate his luxury SUV over a median and temporarily elude law enforcement.
Approximately 40 minutes later, police located him at the DoubleTree Guest Suites Hotel in Plymouth Township. As officers approached, Janicek reversed his vehicle, crashing into the police car multiple times before deliberately aiming his SUV at one of the officers, leading to a tense standoff.
In a statement from prosecutors, it was noted that, “Janicek accelerated directly towards the officer and attempted to strike him, prompting the officer to open fire.” Following this, Janicek hit the officer, causing him to fall. As the officer tried to apply a tourniquet to his leg after being injured, Janicek circled back and hit him three additional times while he was on the ground.
The ordeal concluded when Janicek crashed his SUV head-on into another police vehicle, leading to his arrest. Two officers sustained injuries during the incident.
Janicek, who reportedly graduated from La Salle University High School and attended Loyola Marymount University, was arraigned on Saturday. He is now charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, and other related offenses, and is being held without bail. His next court date is set for November 4.
The police officers involved were transported to a local hospital, where one required surgery. Thankfully, both were reported to be in stable condition and are expected to recover.
Interestingly, Janicek is the son of a prominent attorney in Pennsylvania and grew up in an affluent home in Ambler, worth over $1.4 million. However, there has been no response from his parents regarding the incident.
