California Governor Newsom Considers Presidential Run

In a recent CBS interview, California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom expressed that he would start to “seriously consider” running for president in 2028 after the midterm elections in 2026. When asked by CBS correspondent Robert Costa about this, Newsom affirmed, “Yes, and if you don’t, you’re lying. You’re just lying. You can’t do that.”

During the discussion, Costa pointed out that governors often claim they need a compelling reason to pursue a presidential campaign. In response, Newsom quoted philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, stating, “Any method can be tolerated if there is a compelling reason.” He emphasized that without a clear rationale, candidates might come off as insincere, saying, “If you don’t have those reasons, people see right through you.” He believes that genuine motivation is crucial for anyone running for office.

Newsom also discussed what he described as a “crisis of masculinity” in the country, mentioning alarming rates of suicide and loneliness among men. He suggested that this issue hasn’t received enough attention from Democrats, even as he aims to highlight it through his podcast. “Men are suffering… What’s going on in this country is a deep crisis,” he noted.

In a previous interview, he voiced concern over the possibility of no election taking place in 2028, reflecting on the seriousness of the current political climate and urging a collective awakening. As he put it, “I’m worried there won’t be an election in 2028… unless we wake up to what’s going on in this country.”
