Eagles Take Lead Amid Tush-Push Controversy Against Giants

On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles jumped ahead of the New York Giants in the second quarter, stirring up some debate over their well-known tush-push play.

Facing a 4th-and-1, Jalen Hurts was under center. Instead of passing, he kept the ball, pushing forward with the help of his teammates to cross the first down marker. However, as Hurts was being propelled forward, Giants pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeau managed to pry the ball away from him.

It seemed like the Giants were on the verge of reclaiming possession. They celebrated briefly, but to their dismay, an on-field official overturned the play, granting the Eagles a first down instead. Referee Brad Rogers clarified that the officials concluded Hurts’ advance had been halted.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll showed visible frustration from the sidelines.

Shortly after, Hurts threw the ball to Saquon Barkley for a touchdown, pushing the Eagles’ lead to 14-7. This marked Barkley’s second touchdown of the game.

Fans watching the NFL have expressed their annoyance with the trend of snitching and the overall execution of certain plays. Just last week, in their previous meeting, the Eagles had employed the tush-push multiple times on a single drive, but the Giants ultimately won that match.

There’s mounting pressure on NFL owners to consider banning the play. It narrowly survived an offseason vote aimed at prohibiting such call-ups, but it’s likely to be revisited in the coming year.
