Jackson Dart and Cam Scatterbo have been closely linked since the Giants drafted them earlier this season—Dart in the first round and Scatterbo in the fourth.
Their bond grew particularly strong after Dart stepped in as the starting quarterback, igniting the team following an 0-3 start.
So, Dart’s emotional response to Scatterbo’s apparent serious ankle injury during the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Eagles was, perhaps, understandable.
As trainers attended to Scatterbo—who had his leg in a cast before being transported from Lincoln Financial Field—Dart knelt, visibly distressed and struggling to process the situation.
At that moment, cameras captured third-string quarterback Jameis Winston comforting Dart with a supportive gesture, possibly trying to lift his spirits.
Scatterbo’s anticipated absence is another setback for the Giants’ offense, already missing star wide receiver Malik Nabors due to a torn ACL from last month.
Even without Nabors, Dart had been revitalizing the offense, with Scatterbo playing a significant role in that momentum—offering fans something to cheer for.
Earlier in the game, Dart had thrown an 18-yard touchdown pass to Scatterbo, leveling the score at 7-7 late in the first quarter.
Scatterbo’s standout performance for the Giants came just two weeks ago against the Eagles, where he tallied three rushing touchdowns and accumulated 98 rushing yards.
He had also faced scrutiny before, receiving a $15,000 fine for breaching concussion protocols during a sideline check in a game earlier this month.
This was part of a convincing victory at MetLife Stadium that spurred hopes of a postseason run.
However, the team then experienced a painful loss to Denver, squandering an 18-point lead in the fourth quarter. Now, with Scatterbo’s injury, Dart faces the challenge of keeping the team competitive.
