Saquon Barkley Shines in Eagles’ Victory
PHILADELPHIA — Saquon Barkley quickly demonstrated he’s still a major threat for the Giants during the Eagles’ clash.
“I noticed how thrilled they were the last time they beat us,” Barkley remarked. “One thing I appreciate about coaching is what [Nick] Sirianni emphasizes: the revenge mindset only lasts about five minutes before we need to refocus on our habits.”
On the game’s second play, Barkley reached an impressive 21 mph during a 65-yard touchdown run, contributing to the Eagles’ 38-20 victory over the Giants.
“I think I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t this feeling of ‘finally,’” Barkley reflected, his gaze directed skyward.
Despite averaging 3.3 yards per carry—down from 5.8 in his previous season—he managed to rush for 150 yards. A groin injury on a 28-yard run in the third quarter, however, limited his potential, leading to Tank Bigsby taking over for him.
Barkley indicated he could have returned to the game if needed. Regardless, he’s got another week to recover.
“I wasn’t too worried about it,” he stated calmly.
The Giants managed to contain Barkley, who ended with 12 carries for 58 yards and two catches for 9 yards, securing a 34-17 win.
This marked Barkley’s first 100-yard rushing performance of the season—a much-needed boost for the Eagles, especially with WR AJ Brown absent due to a hamstring issue.
Barkley also scored a 9-yard touchdown in the first half, giving the Eagles a lead they maintained throughout the game.
“We tried some new strategies we hadn’t implemented before, and Saquon really went at it,” quarterback Jalen Hurts explained.
The Eagles commended their first-year play-caller Kevin Pattullo, who took over from former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, as they sought a more balanced offensive approach.
“When everything clicks, it’s something special,” Hurts added. “That first run encapsulated what we’ve pursued for a while. If you create space for us—well, good luck when that happens.”
