The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has confirmed that a British journalist, believed to be affiliated with the Islamic Brotherhood group, is currently in the custody of ICE and may face deportation from the United States.
DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin expressed gratitude on social media to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, and law enforcement for their involvement in the case. She also noted that Sami Hamdi’s visa had been canceled.
McLaughlin stated, “Thanks to the efforts of @Sec_Noem, @SecRubio, and other law enforcement officials, this individual’s visa has been revoked, and he is in ICE custody until his release.” She added, “Under President Trump, individuals who support terrorism and threaten national security will not be permitted to work or visit this country.”
Her comments followed Hamdi’s arrest at San Francisco International Airport by ICE agents, as reported by sources.
In response to Hamdi’s situation, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) released a statement indicating they were working with attorneys to “address this injustice” and called for his immediate release.
CAIR remarked, “Our country must end the abductions of critics of the Israeli government at the request of those aligned with pro-Israel interests. This is an Israel-first policy, not an America-first policy. It needs to stop.”
Investigative journalist Laura Loomer posted details surrounding Hamdi’s arrest. Loomer mentioned that Hamdi had claimed to be “moving freely” around the U.S. and engaging with various groups to “train American Muslims in digital incitement and political strategies consistent with Muslim Brotherhood ideology.”
Loomer further asserted that Hamdi is not merely a journalist visiting the U.S., but rather someone sent from an international network to mobilize Western Muslims. She added that Hamdi had been linked to extremist figures and training programs abroad and had been involved in recruitment efforts within the U.S.
