Heritage Foundation Introduces New Resource to Assist Americans in Reconnecting with the Country's History

Heritage Foundation Launches New Historic Sites Guide

On Monday, the Heritage Foundation unveiled a new online resource aimed at evaluating the historical accuracy of various historic sites throughout the United States, as first reported by The Daily Caller News Foundation.

This conservative think tank’s website, titled “The Heritage Guide to Historic Sites,” features significant battlefields, presidential homes, museums, and a diverse array of other historical locations. The accompanying map assesses the “historical accuracy” of these sites using an A, B, or C rating system.

Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “The next 250 years of our republic depend on rekindling a true understanding of what it means to be an American—the rights and responsibilities of American citizenship. That’s why the new Historic Sites Guide is so important. It equips families with the tools they need to appreciate the sites that encapsulate some of our nation’s most significant events.” He also remarked on the necessity of viewing American history without the influence of what he described as a left-leaning, anti-American narrative.

Brenda Hafela, Deputy Director and Fellow at the Heritage Foundation’s B. Kenneth Simon Center for American Studies, mentioned that the guide aims to assist Americans in “rediscovering America’s story together.” She expressed hopes that families and communities would celebrate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the nation by exploring these historical sites with the guide in hand.

“Every location featured is historically significant, but not all present a fair and accurate account of America’s narrative,” she added. “People often visit these sites to learn, and the backgrounds of our evaluators align with the sites, enabling them to spot historical inaccuracies that might not be immediately apparent.”

The guide awarded George Washington’s Mount Vernon mansion an A rating, praising its “consistently balanced atmosphere” and commitment to academic standards.

This new resource arrives in anticipation of the country’s 250th anniversary in 2026. Earlier this year, President Donald Trump established a White House task force to coordinate celebrations of America’s founding.
